Show notes:

You may think a faux painting job is complete, but does your client think so?

A few tips we go over when you think your job is done:

  • Meet with the client the day before the job will be complete. Have them look over the walls and maybe have them move in a few furniture pieces or hang a few pictures in completed areas. Talk to them about how they like the colors and texture. Think about the question before you ask. Don't ask too many open ended questions… such as "how do you like it?" Ask more questions that put the results in to the client's lap… like " I love these colors you picked… don't you?"
  • Ask if their are any areas they aren't happy with, so you can touch them up. You don't want to have to come back to the job site for touch ups.
  • Be clear about the finished job.; Make sure your client understands that you are finishing up and that they need to tell you know if they have any problems with the finish.
  • Have the client initial the contract that they agree the job is done

A few tips so you aren't becoming a non-profit company:

  • When your customer walks into the room, and says " I love it!"… you know your are very closte to a complete job.
  • Don't nitpick on things that are not important. Tiny little imperfections that only you can see are not important in the big scheme.
  • Ask the client if they see anything that is missing… and then fix it.
  • You should feel really good about a job well done when you leave.I often have called a client a few days after a job is finished, just to get another exclamation of delight. It really helps to know your client is in love with the work you have done for them.

One more tip: If the client shows interest in having work done in other rooms, talk about their ideas right then. Get your camera out and take pictures of the areas they might want painted. This will refresh your memory in the months to come when they call for the next job.&Leave them with a few great ideas in their head… they won't be able to get them off their minds until they have called to schedule you back to paint. :)

The Faux Painting Business Podcast was given a thumbs up over on Paul Colligans Blog. I am a member/graduate of Podcast Creation Mastermind, which is an online teaching environment with Paul and Jeff Mills. As podcasting is considered new technology as well as a new communication device… learning from those that have done that is where the serious business owner gets the edge.

These murals added needed color and an attractive design element to the office. Plus… the office workers appreciated the fun added to their work space.

What a journey this has been, and something I have come to learn just in the last few days. Podcasting is easy and easy to learn if…. you can get the junk out of your brain and really listen to a few experts about their podcasting experiences.

I listened to Leesa Barnes from www.podonomics.com several times and finally heard what she was really trying to say.

I also got my hands on the Audicity.com free software and GigaVoxLite.com software.

Now… I am not only an artist, but I am sharing knowledge with the world. How cool is that?
