About Us
You might be curious to know why we named our Faux Painting Podcast - Two Painters In A Pod. (cast)
Well… it is a rather long, crooked-road tale.
The story starts with two faux painting partners working on a client's office. (This was many…many years ago, when we gals were just starting our faux painting and mural business.) The client sold vegetables. The business is a vegetable broker style business. Like a stock broker - only with produce. The office had many windows that looked into other offices, creating an open space feeling with doors.
Dramatic painting was called for! This client had an open mind about the project and let us design at will. Cool.
The front entry was plain with a "smack you in the face" blank wall. The painting duo, quickly decided on onions, the green style as the theme for this room. Why? Because we wanted to depict produce from floor to ceiling. Have you ever seen 9ft green onions?
To get to the point of this story, and the naming of this podcast. This office is rather large and we painted vegetables in a ton of spaces. Murals can start to get a little boring when you are painting the same thing over and over. So being the clever girls we are, we added a little fun into each rooms murals. Potatoes were given "eyes" (tiny, so you had to be very close to see them), lettuce leaves fell on the floor ( funny to see people's reactions when they find the leaf) and a few peas popping out of their pods.
Not only did we create a new logo for ourselves that day… we created an identity that put us over the top of all other painters in our area.
A mural is very personal and usually one-of-a-kind. But, when you start adding an element of surprise to every job you do… well, the clients start boasting about it. How many murals of grapes and vines have you seen in kitchens? Now, how many of these same murals have grapes falling down the wall? See what I mean. Clients loved our fun outlook and ability to put such detail onto their walls.
The day of painting our first popping pea was memorable… and when every we were completing a new mural, we asked each other "where is the pea?" This question didn't mean we were going to paint a pea on that mural, it was just code for "what cool thing can we add to this mural".
That is how we got the idea for Two Painters In A Pod. Now we are sharing our love of the Faux and Mural Painting Business with others through our soon to be released Podcast.
